I am proud to call Nevada, Missouri my hometown. Nevada is located approximately 1 1/2 hours south of Kansas City, Missouri just off I 49 Hwy and one hour north of Joplin, MO. Nevada offers a small town feel and slower pace of life you won't find on the Coasts and you don't have the white knuckle commute you will find in larger cities. Most people can travel from work to home in apx 10 minutes or less. Major employers include 3M corporation (the local plant makes the film you see on side of 18 wheeler trailers), Nevada Regional Medical Center, Cottey College (four year women's liberal arts college), Murphy Family Ventures, and WF Norman Corporation (the only manufacturer of metal ceilings left in the US). Nevada offers 439 acres of City park space including Radio Springs Park, Spring Street Park, Walton Park, and Marmaduke Park to name a few. If you are looking for places to walk there are some nice options like the Healthy Nevada paved trail next to the Middle School on North Olive Cerner Healthy Nevada Trail Project.pdf(available to public on non-school hours), Walton Lake trail IzaacWaltonLake.pdf(mostly gravel around lake), Radio Spring Park (famous destination for their artesian water around 1900) mostly gravel trail around lake RadioSpringLake.pdf, and Katy Allen Lake. Also you can check out the Osage Prairie YMCA that offers indoor pool, racketball, walking court, and gym. Duck hunters take note - just north of Nevada on the Vernon County/ Bates County line is the August A Busch Jr. Memorial Wetlands offering over 13,900 acres of prime waterfowl hunting BuschWetlandsMap.pdf. For fisherman - just appx 10 minutes south of Nevada is the Bushwhacker Lake Conservation area featuring an 157 acre public fishing lake BushwhackerLakeConservationArea.pdf
